As Daily Money Managers, we at NYFO help our clients manage their daily cash flow, process invoices, and pay their bills. But we don’t stop there.
One of our clients had a stroke several years ago and as a result, has limited mobility and cognitive ability. We visit her twice a month, pick up her mail and help her sort through it. During one visit, I noticed a note amidst all the other mail. This note was from a social worker about meditation.
As someone who meditates, I know the benefits first hand. I asked our client if she would like to give it a try. It was a simple meditation. It consisted of taking a few deep breaths and then for one minute, picturing a flame in front of your face. For the second minute, envisioning the flame entering you through your mind’s eye. During the final minute, the flame fades from your mind.
I set a timer on my phone with an alert every minute. After the three minutes were up, I looked at my client. Her eyes were closed and she had a smile on her face.
I don’t know how many Daily Money Managers lead clients through meditation. We could simply send this client her monthly cash flow reports and pay her bills. But it’s about more than paying bills. It’s about connecting with others. It’s a shared moment and smiles on their faces. This is why I do the work that I do.
